One house is setting the price in Tanzania

Half the best prices on Tanzania's opening-weekend board come from a single house, and it is not close. When one operator leads a market that plainly, everything else on the board is priced in relation to it.
SportyBet prices the match result at 1.99% and holds the leading number on half the outcomes available this weekend. Nothing else in the market is doing that.
A leader is not automatically bad news for bettors. It means the best number is easy to find. It also means the rest of the market has little reason to go past it, and the gap between the leader and the field is where the cost of convenience shows up.
When one house holds half the best prices, the rest of the market has no reason to chase.

Manchester City against Bournemouth is the tightest board of the round at 1.16%, which is what happens when a heavy favourite draws attention from every house at once. Hull City against Manchester United is the widest, and it is also the match where the biggest single gap of the weekend sits.
The market's read on the round is orthodox: two heavy home favourites, two away sides favoured on the south coast and in the north east, and one genuinely even match.
What each market costs
Margin is the amount the odds carry above a fair book. Tanzania's three markets are not priced alike, and the difference is large.
- Match result5.23% at a typical book, 1.98% at the best available price
- Over and under 2.5 goals6.51% at a typical book, 4.69% at the best available price
- Both teams to score7.00% at a typical book, 4.76% at the best available price
Match result more than halves when you take the best available number rather than a typical one. The goals markets improve by far less, because the leader's advantage is concentrated in results.
That shape has a practical consequence. A bettor here who only ever bets the result is getting close to the best terms in the market with very little effort. One who bets goals is not, and no amount of comparison closes the gap.

Betika is the closest thing to a challenger, and its shape is different: twice the leader's number on the result, and line ball with it on both teams to score. That is a genuine choice rather than a worse version of the same thing.
Three names further down publish an identical price list on every outcome they share. They are one set of numbers under different signs, and spreading accounts across them buys nothing.
Where the prices separate
The widest disagreements of the weekend, then the bands that explain where they cluster.
- Hull City v Manchester United, home win7.05 at one book against 8.40 at another, 19% better
- Hull City v Manchester United, the draw4.33 at one book against 5.00 at another, 15% better
- Manchester City v Bournemouth, away win5.48 at one book against 6.14 at another, 12% better
- Manchester City v Bournemouth, the draw4.70 at one book against 5.24 at another, 11% better
- Arsenal v Coventry, away win15.27 at one book against 17.00 at another, 11% better
- Favourites, under 2.002.55% below the best price on average
- Middling prices, 2.00 to 4.003.06% below
- Long shots, over 4.004.77% below
Hull City to win at home is quoted at 7.05 in one place and 8.40 in another. On TSh 20,000 that is TSh 27,000 of difference on a bet many Tanzanians will have an opinion about either way.
The bias below is present but shallower than the usual shape, which is another consequence of a single house setting the reference price across the board.
How concentrated the best prices are
With one clear leader, the useful question is how much the rest of the market adds.
- SportyBet50% of the best prices, 99.7% of the value
- Adding Betika70% of the best prices, 99.3% of the value
- Adding Betwinner80% of the best prices, 99.3% of the value
- Adding Meridianbet90% of the best prices, 99.4% of the value
The leader alone captures nearly all of the value available. Adding a second name lifts the count of best prices considerably and the value barely at all, which is the clearest possible statement of what a leader-led market looks like from a bettor's side.
What the first round suggests
A leader can move. The most useful thing the next few rounds will show is whether one house keeps holding half the board. Leadership that survives a month is a pricing policy. Leadership that lasts one weekend is an opening offer.
Match the house to the market. The leader's advantage is almost entirely in results. If your betting is mostly goals lines, the ranking that matters to you is a different one from the headline.
Identical price lists are worth knowing about. Where several brands post the same numbers, treating them as separate options is an illusion of choice. The real comparison is between that group and the houses pricing on their own.
This is the first instalment. Each round gets the same treatment.

Method
Odds from the Tanzanian bookmakers listed above on the Premier League fixtures of 21 to 24 August 2026, as at 18 August. Margin is the sum of the implied probabilities of every outcome in a market, less 100%. The best available price takes the highest number quoted on each outcome anywhere in the Tanzanian market. Percentages beside a fixture are the market's own view of it once margin is stripped out. Odds move; the numbers here describe a snapshot, not a guarantee. 18+. Bet responsibly.
